Therapeutic Massage
Massage is not a luxury but an important tool for your health. Getting massage regularly gives you a chance to relax and treat sore muscles. It also activates your parasympathetic nervous system, which allows your body to maintain and repair itself in many ways. |
| May be appropriate for: |
- Stress relief and getting "quiet time"
- "Weekend warrior" syndrome
- Sore muscles from poor ergonomics (too much computer time, standing, etc.)
- Numerous other conditions that indicate too much time in "fight or flight" mode
|
| Contraindications: |
- Herniated or ruptured discs without a doctor's consent
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Fever
- Contagious disease that can be spread by air or contact
- Infection such as cold, flu, or bronchitis. Massage adds to the load on your immune system and you could feel worse afterward.
- Immunosuppression
|
| What to expect: | First I assess and warm up your muscles with a lighter touch, then I increase the pressure to whatever level is necessary and/or comfortable for you. I work with my intuition to determine the solution for your needs, keeping you comfortable and pain-free.
Do you have to undress for a massage? Most people do; some leave their underwear on. You'll be covered by a sheet & blanket, which I only pull back to uncover the area I'm currently working on. |
| You might also like to know: |
- If you cannot on your lie stomach (e.g., pregnancy, facial injury, colostomy) you can still receive a full massage; you'll lie on your side instead of your stomach.
- Cancer and HIV are not automatic contraindications for massage. I welcome the chance to discuss your situation.
- If you have a situation that you're uncertain allows massage, please call me to discuss it. I'll make any accommodations possible without compromising your health or comfort.
